Psychiatry training in Wessex is rewarding and fulfilling thanks to carefully designed and integrated programmes. In a recent survey more than 80% of our trainees rated Wessex as a good place to learn psychiatry.

Wessex is a compact area which is easy to get around. We are on the sunny south coast with direct access to London by road and rail. Living in Wessex is easy and fun whatever your stage of life.

Our programmes have an excellent reputation with a higher than average pass rate in the School of Psychiatry, particularly for CASC.  Psychiatrists who finish their training in Wessex take up consultant posts in the region.

Wessex has a dedicated psychotherapy tutor who provides expert advice to trainees and ensures the highest quality psychotherapy training across the programme.

We work with an excellent range of NHS Trusts and partners so you experience the full range of modern psychiatric services (including opportunities in prisons) across a wide social context. 

Research and other opportunities

World-class research opportunities and academic clinical fellowships are available at the Department of Psychiatry in the University of Southampton.
