Where we provide training

A woman browsing the internet on a laptopTraining is provided in hospitals throughout the Wessex region.  These include the University teaching hospital in Southampton and district general hospitals such as the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

Other hospitals include Poole, Bournemouth, Winchester, Basinstoke, Salisbury, and the Isle of Wight. 

 

The Acute Medicine leads in each of the hospitals are as follows

  • Southampton General Hospital – Dr Ben Chadwick
  • Salisbury District Hospital – Dr Stuart Henderson
  • Royal Bournemouth Hospital – Dr Tanzeem Raza
  • Winchester (Royal Hampshire County Hospital) and Basingstoke (North Hampshire Hospital) – Dr Umed Nadir
  • Isle of Wight (St Marys Hospital) – Dr Victor Lawrence
  • Poole General Hospital – Dr Hannah Smith
  • Portsmouth (Queen Alexandra Hospital) – Dr Shez Akram 

 

Other opportunities for trainees

Wessex has a fantastic record in allowing trainees to explore out of program time ranging from overseas placements, research, time in other specialities and many Deanery and national fellowships in Quality Improvement, Simulation and indeed the National Clinical Fellows to the Medical Director of the NHS scheme.
