We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those of you who completed the 2011 GMC Trainee Survey. As a result Wessex Deanery had a very good response rate of 88%, which was an increase of over 7% on the previous year.
The survey results are a key source of data for the Deanery and are used to inform our quality management processes, and we would like to assure you that we that we use the information to improve the quality of your training.
A summary of all outliers (red and green triangles) has recently been sent to all Trusts, Heads of Schools and Programme Directors. All Trusts have been asked to confirm if any of these below outliers represent an issue and if so what the action plan is to rectify this. The Deanery Quality Management team will ensure that these below outliers are tracked on our monitoring systems to ensure that action has been taken. If a Trust feels that such results are not indicative of a current issue they have also been asked to confirm how they have come to this conclusion and what action was taken.
Each Trust and School are required to provide an update on each active issue (including those from the Survey) as part of their annual reporting cycle to the Deanery, alongside more frequent updates for those issues deemed to be more serious. In addition, a Deanery Quality Board reviews serious issues and those that are deemed not to be progressing so that appropriate action can be taken. Ultimately this all informs the Deanery report to the regulators, the GMC, who on an annual basis have to reapprove the Deanery as an organisation able to provide training.
The results are available on the GMC website http://gmc-onlineeducationreports.org/ and all trainees have been sent a help sheet giving details on how to drill down on the results.

Many thanks to all those who took part in this survey. Again Wessex saw a significant increase in its response rate for the 2011 Trainer Survey, increasing from 36% in 2010 to 56%.

Please note that there will be no Trainer Survey in 2012.
