Assuring Safer Care: Embracing Human Factors for Improvement 

The HEE Wessex School of Quality Improvement have offered a two day course in Human Factors; "Assuring Safer Care: Embracing Human Factors for Improvement" since 2017.

Aim of the course

To learn how human factors awareness can enhance performance at individual and team level

Course Information

This two day course covers the reasons why information exchange, shared mental models, collaborative decision making and new models of distributive leadership are key to facilitating appropriate prioritisation and delegation of patient care. Please see a draft programme for more information.

  • Time: All day (09.00 - 16.30) - delegates will be required to attend both course dates
  • Location: Southern House, Otterbourne, SO21 2RU. If you have not visited before here is a link to directions to Southern House. Please note that parking is available on a first come first serve basis.
  • Cost: Free - including refreshments for both days 
  • CPD points: 11 hours. Please note that both dates must be attended to complete the course. Part CPD points will not be awarded.


Who is the course aimed at?

The course would be particularly useful for those who are currently involved in or planning to engage in service development or quality improvement work. In addition, the following staff groups may find the course beneficial:

  • Wessex doctors in training (ST4+)
  • Wessex Staff and Associate Specialist doctors
  • Any Wessex clinical/non-clinical staff at AfC band 6 or above
