Wessex Safety, Quality & Improvement Conference 2018 - Conference Posters

We were delighted to have 33 posters on display at the conference and following a panel review, five posters were selected as Highly Commended and were put into the poster competition on the day.

Thank you to our poster judges - Roy Lilley (The Academy of Fabulous Stuff), Pauline Brown (Dean and Director of Education and Quality, HEE South), and Martin Davies (Patient Partner, Wessex AHSN).

Thanks also to Tracy Broom, Associate Director, Wessex Patient Safety Collaborative who presented this section of the programme and our award presenters, Dave Meehan, Deputy CEO and Director of Partnerships, Wessex AHSN and Ruth Monger, Local Director, HEE Wessex and Thames Valley.

Prize Winners

1st Prize - Improving the Safety Culture in Primary Care - Rolling out the Quasar Surveillance Tool; Julia Barton, Marcus Pullen, Kate McCandlish, Chris Davis and LehBee Cornwall, NHS Fareham & Gosport and South Eastern Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Groups

Judges comments included: Good risk management approach - real buy in; Deals with an issue notoriously hard to reach, Shows how quality surveillance is used in managing incidents to improvement primary care

2nd Prize - Safety on Board - Reducing risk on Snowdon Ward; Karen Kingston, Ward Sister, Solent NHS Trust

Judges comments included: Fabulous presentation, underlying the small things really are the big things; Nice demonstration of PDSA - ward based and powerful; Simple poster conveying an important critical safety message

3rd Prize - How good are we at documentation of blood transfusion?; Dr Reny Mathai, Core Medical Trainee, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust

Judges comments included: This is not a widely known issue and the poster deals with this comprehensively
