National Inter Deanery Transfer (IDT) Process


The National Inter Deanery Transfer (NIDT) process has been launched to support medical trainees who have had an unforeseen, significant change in personal circumstances since their appointment to their current training programme, enabling consideration to be given to a possible transfer to another deanery. The NIDT process is hosted by London Deanery Provider Support (LDPS) on behalf of Health Education England (HEE) and UK deaneries via arrangements agreed through the Conference of Postgraduate Medical Deans of the United Kingdom (COPMeD).

Application Process

The next opportunity to submit an application for the National IDT process will be in the February 2019 transfer window.
The opening date for this application window will be Monday 4th February at 12:00 midday. The application window will be open for exactly four weeks and will close on Monday 4th March at 12:00 midday.
This window will allocate transfers for August 2019.

Please visit the national IDT page for further guidance.Trainees are advised that  they have all documents which need Deanery signatures completed in good time to ensure they meet the closing deadline date.


Please note: All of the required documentation, supporting documents and applicant guides are hosted on the specialty training website, and all applications will now be made via the Post Graduate Medical and Dental Education (PGMDE) Support Portal. All FAQs are now hosted on the PGMDE website which can be accessed here ; they can also be accessed on the specialty training website.

As part of the application process, all trainees will be required to submit a ‘Deanery Document. This form can be found on the National IDT website and should be sent to your current region’s administrative team for completion.
