Practice Nursing: fit for the future

This inaugural one day conference is being held for General Practice Nurses and others working in the Oxford and Wessex Deaneries in NHS South Central and beyond.  The aims of this conference are:

• To raise the profile of Practice Nurse education in NHS South Central
• To describe the future landscape for Primary Care
• To disseminate information about the local GPN education framework
• To showcase and launch local GPN initiatives

The content will include sessions on:

• The RCGP Foundation and its relevance for General Practice Nursing
• NHS Reforms and what they mean for Practice Nursing
• The current developments and challenges for Practice Nurse Education both locally and nationally
• Clinical Commissioning Groups – their role now and in the future

There will also be workshops* relevant to Primary Care on:  

• Leadership
• Mentorship
• Pre Reg placements
• Career development
• Workforce planning
• The expanding role of the Health Care Assistant

We are also delighted to be able to introduce a costume presentation by Lesley Smith, the curator of Tutbury Castle in Staffordshire. She is 16^th century medical historian and will be giving an amusing and informative session on contraception and sexual behaviour in the Tudor period!

This presentation will include:

• Sexual behaviour in the 16th century
• Perceived contraception techniques at the time of the Tudors
• Contraception from the early modern period – artifacts such as leather condom, chastity belt and more…

*Delegates will have the opportunity to attend 2 workshops at which attendance can be chosen on day, workshops will be available on a first come first serve basis. Please read through the workshop information sheet provided below:

Cancellation Policy

You are entitled to withdraw from the event at any time, although we ask that you notify the Event Administrator for the event by email or telephone as soon as possible. Please note that unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds for this event.

Substitution of Delegates

If you are unable to attend but wish to send a colleague in your place, substitution of delegates is permitted with the prior approval of the Event Administrator for the event.
