Wessex Foundation School spans some of the most beautiful parts of the United Kingdom extending along the central south coast of England, inland through the countryside of Dorchester, Winchester and Hampshire, and also the Isle of Wight and Jersey.
The Wessex Foundation School draws on the diverse opportunities available within this broad healthcare community to deliver many varied and innovative options for the foundation programme. These include training opportunities in all mainstream medical and surgical specialties plus some not so commonly seen in the foundation programme. For example, there are options in FY1 in some hospitals to undertake anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, or in FY2 General Practice posts you can also gain experience in other areas including Public Health and Medical Education.
For those considering an academic route there is a wide range of programmes including Neurosurgery and Child Health. These are mainly based in Southampton University Hospitals though academic options are available across the region.
The foundation school is well supported by a dedicated team which gives foundation trainees access to many avenues of support including professional careers advice and the Deanery Professional Support Unit.
All this makes the Wessex Foundation School an excellent location to take the step from medical student to doctor while living in a pleasant part of the country.
Wessex Foundation School is aligned with the University of Southampton Medical School.
The Head of Wessex Foundation School is Dr Paul Sadler.
